Natural history is a life-time passion for him, with his favourite subjects being butterflies, moths, orchids, dragonflies and fungi, though by his own admission he will photograph anything in nature.

Using macro techniques Maurice likes to get shots that would be missed by the casual observer. He mostly takes photos for his own pleasure and enjoyment and to illustrate his Natural History talks.

Workflow Uncovered

Presented by: Sue Morris

Sue started out photographing wildlife and soon found that people were prepared to pay money for her photos. Photographing family, friends, and weddings developed over time into a Wedding and Portrait photography business.

Having studied the art of photography for many years and investing hours perfecting her shooting and post-production techniques, Sue believes there is more to being a portrait and wedding photographer than just pushing the button and understanding the technical elements of photography. Her aim is to blend photographic equipment and technique with artistic styling to create unique and stylish images that capture the true essence of a person or a relationship.

Sue's presentation tonight will concentrate on how her photgraphy workflow enables her to maximise her time in post processing, storage and archival of her images.

If you are a beginner this presentation will give you plenty of useful information to help improve your photos. If you are an old hand you should find this a great refresher to jog the memory and maybe even discover a few new tips to add to your skills.

Is This It? (a wry look at Britain)

Presented by: Leigh Preston FRPS, EFIAP, MPAGB

I have been taking and making pictures for well over thirty years. In that time my own work has been mainly thematic, working in photographs as a series. I have a relatively specific approach to what I choose to make pictures of, and I rely heavily on atmospherics, dramatic lighting and strong storylines to convey an individual style. A lot of my personal work is taken either in isolated, out of the way places, or of buildings and landscapes that are well past their ‘sell-by’ date.

Moving beyond Auto

Presented by: Bob Brind-Surch

Modern cameras have powerful computer processors which can greatly assist you when taking photos. It is therefore very tempting to set your camera on automatic and allow these computers to do all the work. However, if cameras are so clever why do some of your photos look too dark and some too light, why some are blurred and some are not?

Bob will show that allowing your camera to make decisions for you isn’t always the best option. More importantly you will be reassured that taking back control yourself isn’t nearly as difficult as you might think. The first step is leaving the auto mode settings on your camera behind and learning how even the basic controls, together with the inbuilt computer can help you take better photographs.
