Whats On 2026

This page gives an overview of the projects, speakers, and field trips which members can attend and enjoy whilst trying different kinds of photography to regularly exercise their skills. The monthly project themes are set at the start of the year, whilst the speakers and field trip opportunities evolve as the year progresses (Galleries).
For members more details can be found via the Members Whats On Calendar link

MARCH
PROJECT:  Reflections
Beautiful reflections can exist anywhere, but you need to be aware of your surroundings to find the reflective surfaces to use in your photographs. It often means moving around in order to find the right angles and height for the camera. When you are next out and about, look for reflections and see how creative you can get.

Wednesday 11th March - Club Night - Gladys Perrier
Presentation:  Think Like a Judge
Gladys demonstrates the tools in the photographer’s toolbox to help you create meaningful and compelling images. She encourages you to find the words to describe how an image makes you feel. By recognising what resonates with you empowers you to create impactful images.

Wednesday 25th March - Club Night  -  Light Painting Part 2
Back by popular demand. Another chance to practice taking images in the dark… then while the shutter is open adding light using a torch, LEDs or other light source in different places. By experimenting with the light you can make a fairly ordinary subject into an interesting image.
APRIL
PROJECT:   Cold
Misty mornings, frosty plants, amazing light… as winter passes and spring arrives, the world around us is changing and creating wonderful opportunities for photography.

Wednesday 8th April - Club Night - Jim Donahue
Presentation:  The Thames Valley: Past, Present and Future – A Snapshot of English Life
by author and photographer Jim Donahue. The first book to provide a comprehensive view of the Thames Valley region of England – covering the area from Windsor up to Oxford, with fascinating stories related to many of the important towns and villages in between.

Wednesday 29th April - Club Night Speaker - Cathy de Lara
Presentation: My adventures with underwater photography
Cathy, one of our own members, has been taking photos underwater since 1993. Her presentation will give an introduction to underwater photography, the equipment she uses, and some of the many challenges she faces, including how to light the pictures and some of the different types of underwater photographs. Then she will talk about how the non-diver can also take photographs underwater.

MAY
Sunday 3rd May - Event - Thatcham 10K Run
Lower Way Recreation Ground - 10am - 12:30pm
The Thatcham 10K Run is a friendly running event with a route that follows the beautiful surroundings of Thatcham Canal and local lakes, offering flat paths, open views, and a peaceful natural setting — ideal for both first-time 10Km runners and those looking to chase a personal best.

Our Members will be photographing runners and onlookers at various locations around the race. We'll aim to have some experienced photographers paired with less experienced photographers to create a learning / coaching opportunity for those that want to take part. We'll also have a small gazebo onsite if you fancy a chat about photography.
